2026 APPIC Membership Conference

About this event

Navigating Change: Reimagining Psychology Training

The 2026 APPIC Membership Conference will explore the dynamic and evolving landscape of health service psychology in the context of broader societal shifts. Training Directors are managing significant shifts in training programs, including advancements in technology, changes in competency and licensure requirements, uncertainty in the context of organizational change, increasing workplace demands, as well as evolving trainee needs and learning styles. Participants will engage in meaningful dialogue, share evidence-informed practices, and collaborate on practical, forward-thinking approaches to address current and emerging challenges in the provision of health-service psychology.

The APPIC membership conference is for internship and postdoctoral training directors, supervisors, and those psychologists in leadership roles that support training in health service psychology. Programming for the conference is developed with this audience in mind.  It is not open to current trainees, students, or administrative coordinators.

2026 APPIC Membership Conference Grievance Policy

2026 APPIC Membership Conference Grievance Policy

The Association of Psychology Postdoctoral & Internship Centers (APPIC) is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the American Psychological Association's Ethical Principles of Psychologists. The Association of Psychology Postdoctoral & Internship Centers (APPIC) will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content, and in the treatment of program participants. The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of the Conference Co-Chairs in consultation with the members of the conference planning committee and APPIC's Executive Director.

While the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral & Internship Centers (APPIC) goes to great lengths to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there may be occasional issues that come to the attention of the conference staff and require intervention and/or action on the part of the convention staff or an officer of The Association of Psychology

Postdoctoral & Internship Centers (APPIC). This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances.

When a participant, either orally or in written format, files a grievance and expects action on the complaint, the following actions will be taken. Participants can bring their concern to the Conference Co-Chairs, Dr. Denise Mercurio-Riley or Dr. Natasha Maynard-Pemba. They may also seek consultation through the APPIC Informal Problem Consultation (IPC) procedure after the conference has concluded.

In addition,

1. If the grievance concerns a speaker, the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put his/her comments in written format. The Conference Co-Chairs will then share the comments with the speaker, protecting the confidentiality of the grieved individual.

2. If the grievance concerns a workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, one of the Conference Co-Chairs will attempt to mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, the Conference Chair may:

a. attempt to shift the participant to another session

b. provide a credit for a subsequent year's conference registration, or

c. provide a partial or full refund of the conference fee.

Actions 2b and 2c will require a written note documenting the grievance, for record-keeping purposes. The note need not be signed by the grieved individual.

3. If the grievance concerns the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral & Internship Centers (APPIC) CE program, in a specific regard, please contact APPIC's Executive Director, Dr. Mariella Self – 17225 El Camino Real, Suite #170, Houston, TX, 77058; Phone: 832.284.4080; Email: mariellaself@appic.org – to submit a complaint, or if you have additional questions.
